The NBA has hired the law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz to investigate alleged hidden payments to Kawhi Leonard
The NBA has opened an investigation into possible salary cap circumvention involving Kawhi Leonard, the LA Clippers, and the fintech company Aspiration. To ensure independence in the process, the league has hired the law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz (WLRK) to lead the investigation.
Apparently, a minority partner of the Clippers invested about $2 million in Aspiration nine days before the company made a $1.75 million payment to Leonard, a fact that has heightened scrutiny. The league is examining whether there was rule evasion during Leonard’s contract negotiations.
